As convenience stores are set to begin alcohol sales on September 5, 2024, and grocery stores on October 31, 2024, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is committed to supporting licensees meet their regulatory obligations for the safe and responsible sale of alcohol in Ontario.

To assist convenience and grocery store licensees with this important transition, the AGCO has launched a new compliance web page on its website to ensure that finding and understanding compliance requirements is easier than ever.

Visit the Compliance support for convenience and grocery stores page for a comprehensive collection of resources designed to help licensees stay compliant with the Liquor Licence and Control Act, 2019 (LLCA), its Regulations, and the Registrar’s Standards for Grocery and Convenience Stores.

The page includes:

  • Detailed guides and printable assets
  • Details on the following key selling responsibilities:
    • Not selling to minors
    • Not selling to intoxicated persons
    • Selling legal liquor
    • Selling during allowable times

Why compliance matters

Compliance is a legal obligation. Adhering to these regulations is essential for upholding business integrity and ensuring public safety. By fulfilling your obligations, you help ensure that alcohol is sold safely and responsibly. The AGCO has the regulatory tools to ensure compliance with legal requirements, and non-compliance can result in substantial monetary penalties or the suspension of or even the revocation of licenses.

Regularly visit the compliance page as it will be updated with new and relevant information.
