The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is excited to announce that we’ve been selected as one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2025. This is the second consecutive year the AGCO has been selected for this annual designation, which recognizes employers for providing outstanding workplaces and best practices for their employees.
Each year, winners are evaluated and selected based on eight criteria:
- workplace
- work atmosphere and social
- health, financial and family benefits
- vacation and time-off
- employee communications
- performance management
- training and skills development
- community involvement
Why the AGCO was selected
Our leadership development
One of the key commitments of the AGCO’s talent-management approach is to develop our talent to empower employees and nurture our internal talent succession pool. Our workplace environment is focused on continual learning and development, and we have many programs and initiatives in place to help employees reach their full professional potential. Our Emerging Leaders program, which was introduced in 2023, is designed to provide aspiring leaders within the AGCO with foundational leadership and competency skills. Over a six-month journey, participants engage in online learning modules, in-person workshops, self-assessments, reflection, and networking opportunities. Graduates of the program are equipped with essential skills to work towards leadership roles at the AGCO.
“The Emerging Leaders program was created to ensure employees have the skills they need to grow and flourish. We are not a static organization.” – Dr. Karin Schnarr, AGCO CEO & Registrar
Our commitment to being socially responsible
The AGCO is guided by strong principles and our vision is to be a world-class regulator that is innovative, proactive, inclusive and socially responsible. One way we achieve this is through our commitment to volunteering and giving back to the community. In 2020, we launched our employer funded Volunteer Time Off (VTO) program, which provides employees with the opportunity to support and participate in local causes that are of importance to them, and to help charitable and not-for-profit organizations make a difference in the communities they serve. This aligns with the AGCO’s vision and ongoing goal to ensure our employees, communities and environment thrive. The VTO program provides eligible employees with two paid VTO days per calendar year.
