The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) recently launched an engagement with industry stakeholders, with a focus on two potential amendments to the Registrar’s Standards for Cannabis Retail Stores (the Standards) related to:
- Visibility of cannabis and cannabis accessories from the exterior of stores (Standard 2.5).
- Inducements for customers to purchase cannabis (Standard 6.3).
The Standards are reviewed and revised on a regular basis to make sure they are effective in mitigating new or emerging risks as the cannabis retail sector matures. The proposed changes will help keep industry employees and customers shopping in retail stores safe and focus our regulatory resources on the areas where they will make the most difference.
The invitation targets industry stakeholders who would be impacted by these changes. If you did not receive the invite but are interested in providing your input, you will first need to register on the AGCO’s engagement portal and state your interest in cannabis engagements during the registration process.
The deadline for submissions is July 11, 2023. Please note that it may take up to one business day after registering to receive access.
The AGCO’s focus is on the safe, responsible, and lawful sale of cannabis in Ontario. We are committed to ensuring that the retail sale of cannabis in Ontario is carried out with honesty, integrity and in the public interest.
