Know your responsibilities
After placing an order, as the licence holder you can buy or get the requested liquor at any retail store under the LLCA. This includes the LCBO, The Beer Store, and any manufacturer’s store, like a retail wine store. It also includes licensed grocery stores buying for customers or auction permit holders.
You can’t buy beer, wine or cider from an authorized grocery store if you have an interest in it.
You can also buy or get liquor from restaurants when you order food. You must have an arrangement with the restaurant, which has a liquor sales licence or a by-the-glass endorsement.
You can deliver for a restaurant or certain retail stores. Customers can order directly from the restaurant or retail store. The restaurant or retail store will then hire to you complete the delivery.
You can only deliver liquor to a home or private place. The drinks can’t be open or tampered with.
You must check that anyone buying or delivering the liquor is at least 18 years old and is carrying a copy of the Licence to Operate a Delivery Service.
Keeping records
All orders for liquor need to have the following information:
- name and address of licensee
- name and address of the customer
- date liquor was purchased and date of delivery
- how much liquor is delivered
- the address where the liquor is delivered
Deliver hours
You’re allowed to delivery liquor between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m.
Storing liquor
You’re allowed to store liquor ordered by a customer. You must store it securely before delivery. Only you (or your employees) can have access. You can’t store liquor at a dwelling. You must make sure the liquor isn’t opened or tampered with.
You must return liquor that can’t be delivered to where you bought it.
Your social responsibilities
You can’t deliver liquor to, or allow a delivery to be accepted by, anyone under 19 years old.
If you think the person is underage, you need to check their government-issued identification.
You also need to make sure that you don’t deliver liquor to anyone to seems drunk.
Agreement with manufacturers
You can work with liquor manufacturers and The Beer Store to help deliver liquor. These agreements can be non-exclusive and involve on-site retail stores or winery off-site retail stores. If you make these agreements, you and the manufacturer can still make agreements with other manufacturers.
