The Government of Ontario announced in its 2020 Budget that, in addition to regulating Ontario's existing gaming market and a new internet gaming (iGaming) framework, the AGCO will establish a subsidiary to conduct and manage the new iGaming market independent of its role as regulator. On March 3, 2021, the Ministry of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Finance launched their public consultations to inform the establishment of a competitive market that will bring internet gaming operators into Ontario’s legal iGaming market with a robust consumer protection framework. All are welcome to participate in these consultations.

Later in March, the AGCO will also begin conducting its own technical consultations with potential iGaming business participants and interested stakeholders for specific input into more operational issues (e.g., game testing, data capture and storage protocols, anti-money laundering measures, etc.) as well as regulatory standards, a responsible gambling program and other operational matters.

As details about Ontario’s expanded iGaming market emerge, the AGCO will be using the new portal on its website to provide updates on the status, relevant activities, changes and milestone achievements related to regulatory matters in the rollout of iGaming.
