Three years into Ontario’s open, regulated igaming market, a new study commissioned by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and iGaming Ontario has found that Ontarians continue to favour regulated gaming sites over unregulated competitors.
According to the most recent data, 83.7% of Ontarians are choosing to play on regulated sites. Before the launch of Ontario’s open and regulated market in 2022, it was estimated that 70 per cent of online gambling was occurring on unregulated sites.
The data also underscores that a notable amount of gaming continues to occur on unregulated sites. Those players are therefore not safeguarded by Ontario’s high standards of game integrity and player protections. The AGCO continues its efforts to address illegal gambling sites in Ontario and to increase public awareness about the benefits of choosing regulated igaming sites.
