Lalit Aggarwal, the Chair of the AGCO’s Board of Directors, has announced his resignation from his role with the agency to spend more time with his family and to focus on his business affairs. The Board’s Vice-Chair, Heidi Reinhart, has assumed the Chair’s responsibilities in the interim. Ms. Reinhart joined the Board of the AGCO in October 2020 and took on the role of Vice Chair in September 2021.

Mr. Aggarwal became Chair of the AGCO Board in June 2019.  Over the last four years, Lalit, a strong and values-based leader, built and led a diverse Board of Directors for the agency. He instilled enhanced governance practices and structures at the AGCO, including the establishment of robust sub-committees and the AGCO’s subsidiary, iGaming Ontario. Lalit expertly guided the Board and AGCO through the difficult days of the pandemic, overseeing numerous, significant initiatives along the way. Notable among them were the many regulatory changes made to support the alcohol, horse racing, gambling, and cannabis industries to mitigate the negative economic impacts of the pandemic.

During his tenure as Board Chair, Lalit oversaw the development and implementation of an internet gambling conduct and management structure, as well as the regulatory framework to support Canada’s first open and competitive internet gaming market. He also presided over the regulatory oversight that enabled the growth of a robust cannabis retail sector, supported numerous charitable gaming modernization initiatives, and implemented the Office of the Auditor General of Ontario’s recommendations.

The AGCO extends its sincere gratitude to Lalit for his years of strong and principled leadership and wishes him the very best in all of his endeavors.
