January 4, 2019 - With the support of the Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario Inc. (QROOI), enhanced testing for Clenbuterol will continue in the 2019 racing season, and will expand to include the collection and routine testing of horse hair samples through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario’s (AGCO)’s Out Of Competition Program. This measure aligns with the AGCO’s zero-tolerance policy on Clenbuterol as outlined in Quarter Horse Directive No. 1-2015.
Routine testing of hair samples will begin on July 1, 2019. Clenbuterol can be detected in hair samples several months after administration. Accordingly, the AGCO is providing the Quarter Horse industry with advance notice of the commencement of hair testing.
Any hair sample that tests positive for Clenbuterol will be considered a violation of the Rules of Racing and may result in a monetary penalty and/or a suspension.
